What is happening now? NHS professionals is now up and running and by April 2003 all trusts within England will have to conform to the standards described in the NHS professionals schedule. There are a number of models hospital trusts are 'allowed' to take. The most popular so far is that of the call centre approach directed by the pioneering Wakefield based WYMAS call centre. Other bodies have been created to undertake the role of providing a service on a more localised basis. The latest on in London has two call centres, one in central London and the other opening soon in Ilford. The Oxford based NHS professionals also provides a local service to trusts within its catchment area and the newest of the NHS professionals is currently being set up in the south east.
